Vision

The Center for Climate Change and Health Research, a joint research center between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Dezful University of Medical Sciences, aims to be recognized as a reputable transnational center in the fields of research, innovation, capacity building, and a reference for supporting the governance process of climate change and health policies. The ultimate goal of this center is to implement and enhance the general policies of prevention and risk reduction from natural disasters and unexpected incidents (issued by the Supreme Leader in 2005), the Crisis Management Organization Law (issued in 2019), and the Strategic Plan for the Development of Water, Drought, Erosion, and Environmental Technologies by the Presidency (issued in 2020) through the execution of appropriate applied research.

 

Mission

The Center for Climate Change and Health Research, a joint research center between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Dezful University of Medical Sciences, as the only research center in the field of climate change and health in the country, strives to prioritize the following key responsibilities in the scientific development of the nation:

  1. Developing a foundation for research and innovation to strengthen resilience and adaptability to climate hazards based on climate-oriented strategies.
  2. Providing scientific evidence on the consequences of climate change, including floods, droughts, and dust storms.
  3. Offering scientific solutions for decision-making, policy-making, and planning to mitigate the health impacts of climate change through the development of inter-university, national, and international collaborations.
  4. Collecting data and statistics on the consequences of climate change in the region.
  5. Expanding and advancing research to study the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of climate-related diseases, especially endemic diseases in the region.
  6. Enhancing and fostering cooperation between research centers within the country and internationally.
  7. Recruiting, training, and empowering human resources in the field of climate change and health based on meritocracy and leveraging the capabilities of talented individuals.
  8. Collaborating with the Supreme Council for Health and Food Security of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
